Inspired by the release of
My Winnipeg, Soda Pictures will be launching a filmmaking competition, in association with Four Docs, 3 Minute Wonder and The Branchage Film Festival. Entrants are invited to submit a three-minute documentary about their hometown, being as experimental and creatively adventurous as they dare!
Director Guy Maddin will join a jury of industry professionals to select the winning entry, which will then be screened on Channel 4, and included on the DVD release of
My Winnipeg. The winner will also be rewarded with £1500 and a holiday to Canada, whilst three runners up will each be screened on Channel 4, and receive £1500. A selection of films entered will join the prize-winning entries, and be shown at Branchage Film Festival in late September.
Full details will be available at the official
My Winnipeg website when it officially launches on the 1 July.
SynopsisDescribed as a docu-fantasia
My Winnipeg sees Maddin continuing in the freewheeling, genre bending tradition that has made him one of Canada’s most consistently intriguing and internationally respected artists. Maddin explores the spell of his hometown blending local myth with childhood trauma to create an extraordinary visual homage to the city of Winnipeg.
